Sibal invites Australian firms to invest in Indian education sector | Union Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal has said invited Australian education institutions to open their branches in India and invest in country's education sector. Kapil Sibal is currently visiting Australia to discuss the set-up of an
Indian Higher Education sector for foreign investments. He also held discussions
on potential of knowledge partnership between two countries. Sibal also interacted
with members of Indian community in Australia. Sharing a conversation he had with
the executive of a company he said:"I said to him, if you want to set up an institution
in India and invest there, you can get all the skilled people you want and you'll
be able to deliver those skilled people at one third the cost. Why would anyone
want to go to the heart of Western Australia to learn skills? you wouldn't." "It
doesn't make sense. And how many will you get? I mean there are adventurous Indians
that come to Australia without thinking. So where does it take you? Some will
come but will it solve the problems of your work force? It won't," Sibal added.
Sibal said it is bad economic model to expect hoards of Indians to come to Australia
"So it's a bad economic model to expect hoards of Indians to come to Australia
when in fact you can actually produce ten times that number if you went there,"
he said. During Sibal's visit, India and Australia have signed an agreement to
improve cooperation between the two countries in the education sector. |
