Maoists issue just not a law and order problem: Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday said the Maoist problem in the country is just not a law and order problem, but has socio-economic implications, as well. "Maoists problem is simply not a law and order problem. We have to tackle the socio-economic issues also simultaneously," said Bhattacharjee addressing the media in New Delhi. Reacting to questions about the lack of preparedness of the security forces in effectively dealing with Maoists rebels, Bhattacharjee stressed on the need to revamp the anti-Maoist policy. "I think, after these developments, after this tragedy in Chattisgarh, all of us should give the matter a serious thought, we have to revamp our plans and operations," said Bhattacharjee. Extending his full support to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who took moral responsibility for the death of 76 paramilitary personals in Chattisgarh's Maoist attack, Bhattacharjee said this was not the time for a blame game and the problem needs to be tackled collectively. "This is not the time to blame anyone. This is not the time to blame each other. It is a time to work together. It is a collective responsibility," said Bhattacharjee. "Everybody has his own sphere of responsibility and we must work collectively because the situation is very serious. It is very difficult to tackle the problem," he added. Seventy-six Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed by the Maoists in an ambush in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada District on Tuesday, which is considered to be the most brutal attack ever by the rebels.
