3 kg IED device found on Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway | A major tragedy was averted here on Thursday when
a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was defused on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway, around 14 kilometers from here. The militants had reportedly
planted the IED on the roadside at Narbal Chowk on the highway. The police said
about 3 kilogram of explosive had been kept inside a pressure cooker, which was
defused and a grave mishap was averted. Sources said it is believed that the target
of the militants was the Army convoy, which passes through this highway every
day. "There is a Chinar tree on the Baramulla National Highway. A pressure cooker
was planted in a pit on the right side of the road. It had 2-3 kgs of IED, which
was later defused. There are no casualties," said Nisar Ahmad, in charge of the
Parimpora police station. Detected by a Road Opening Party of security forces,
the IED was defused by the bomb disposal squad. Earlier on Wednesday, the state
police had defused a powerful IED fitted in a 3 kg gas cylinder in Baramulla district.
They recovered two hand grenades and ten live rounds of AK ammunition from the
spot. |
