Buddhadeb hurt by Chidambaram's 'the buck stops here' remark | West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Monday said he was hurt with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's usage of words for him on Sunday while visiting Lalgarh area of the State. "Eventually 'the buck stops at
the Chief Minister's table. It should not go beyond the Chief Minister's table.
If the buck goes beyond the Chief Minister's table, it is a failure of the administrative
machinery," Chidambaram stated before mediapersons in Lalgarh on Sunday. The Chief
Minister said the law and order was the State Govt.'s subject, " but the language
is not good, it is slang...politicians generally do not use such language." Talking
about his meeting with Chidambaram on Saturday at Writers' Buildings, the Chief
Minister said he had told the Union Minister to ask the Opposition to "behave".
He said: " I told him that I am trying to maintain the law and order situation
in the state and I told the minister that you should also ask the oppositions
to cooperate with the Govt. If they do not cooperate and do not attend any meeting
called by the administration, it is very difficult." Bhattacharjee also said that
law and order was the state govt.'s subject and he was aware of his responsibility. |
