Maoists preventing developmental works in Orissa village | Maoists are preventing developmental work in Pattama village, which falls in Orissa's Gajapati District. Villagers oppressed lament over the lack of development work. It doesn't have basic amenities like water, electricity, medical facilities, etc. "There
is no health facility, no education, no employment, no drinking water available
here. We have drawn the attention of the district administration several times
towards our situation, but they are not listening to our plight. We also informed
the block authorities and the collector, but all in vain," said Haria Majhi, a
local. He said there are no proper roads to commute to markets and people, especially
women, have to go to far off places to fetch water. The authorities have said
works are going on and the people will be able to avail the facilities soon. "Development
works are going on and the minimum services like education, health.. centre services,
old age pension, two rupees rice; there is no problem from any corner," said Prakash
Chandra Das, District Collector. "However, communication will develop gradually
and it is being obstructed by the so called Naxali movement," he added. Last month
the Maoist had threatened to blow up the Orissa Chief Minister's Office (CMO). |
