CPI-ML founder Sanyal found dead | Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML)
founder Kanu Sanyal reportedly committed suicide at his home in Naxalbari on Tuesday. Sources said the dead body of Sanyal, who was not keeping well for the
last few days, was recovered from his house in Naxalbari. He was one of the key
leaders behind the abortive Naxalite insurrection attempt by radical communists to
initiate an "Indian revolution" by violent means. 78-year old Sanyal became a
prominent figure in the opposition to land acquisition in Singur in December 2006.
On January 18, 2006, Sanyal was arrested with fellow agitators for disrupting a
Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express train at the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri,
North Bengal protesting against closures of tea gardens in the region. |
