Nair briefs Ban Ki-moon about India's views on climate change |
The Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, TKA Nair met the UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon and discussed the country's stand on climate change on Thursday. The meeting comes ahead of the Global Climate Summit, starting from September 30. According to India's
envoy to the UN, Hardeep Singh Puri, during the meeting, Nair gave a very detailed
presentation of India's views on various issues relating to climate change to
the Ban Ki-moon. Nair pointed out New Delhi's concern for climate change as well
as its priorities in terms of enormous developmental challenges, the need for
energy security and dependence on fossil fuels for many years to come. He also
noted that New Delhi was looking to access clean technologies at affordable prices
and asked Ban Ki-moon to persuade developed countries to share techniques. Meanwhile,
the USA has emphasized on the need to have countries like India and China on board
on climate change and said this is crucial for success of the Copenhagen meet
to be held in December to discuss this issue. |
