Militant group threatens non-Manipuris to leave state by March 31 | In an alarming development, the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) on Sunday issued 'quit notices' to all non-Manipuri people living in the state asking them to leave the place by March 31. In a statement, the RPF also warned the non- Manipuri people who came to Manipur
after 1949 to leave the state by the month-end otherwise the group would initiate
severe action against such people. The RPF is fighting for an independent state
for the majority Metei community in Manipur. "Hatred among the residents was growing
against the non-Manipuris and hence we have asked them to quit Manipur or face
action," the RPF statement said. The statement also asked locals not to rent out
houses and or sell land to non-Manipuris or allow them to head business houses
in the state. There is no immediate reaction made by the state or central government
over the RPF’s threat. A large number of people from other states are working
in Manipur as daily wage labourers, businesspersons, and employees in private
companies, educational institutions apart from in Central Government establishments.
Different militant groups have killed over 50-Hindi speaking persons in last three
years in different incidents. |
