One rural self-employment-training institute to be set up in each district | Ministry of Rural Development has embarked upon a major initiative to set up one Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in each district of the country. The ministry has so far approved 110 proposals. A meeting of the
national level steering committee was held under the Chairpersonship of Secretary
Rita Sharma here today in order to review the progress of the setting up RSETIs.
The representatives from Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance, Reserve Bank
of India, National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development (NABARD), States, Public
Sector Banks, National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Bankers Institutes
of Rural Development (BIRD), Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute
(RUDSETI), and senior officers from the Ministry of Rural Development attended
the meeting. All the issues related to the operationalization of RSETIs were discussed
in the meeting of the National Level Steering Committee. The committee has been
constituted to give policy directions to all stakeholders involved in the establishment
of RSETIs and also periodically monitor the progress of RSETIs. Public Sector
Banks have also been associated in this scheme by the Ministry of Rural Development
to ensure credit linkage to the people who are trained by the RSETIs. Ministry
of Rural Development would provide assistance to establishment of 200 RSETIs throughout
the country in the current financial year. |
