Ajay Maken flags off Delhi to Imphal car rally

     Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken on Thursday flagged off a car rally of India's oldest paramilitary 'Assam Rifles' in the national Capital. Being participated by 7 Mahindra Scorpio cars, the car rally would take them to New Delhi to Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Speaking on this occasion, Ajay Maken said: "Even after completing 175 years of glory, Assam Rifles continues to shine and remains one of the strongest and oldest paramilitary forces in India. As you all must be aware of that, talks regarding strengthening of the force are under progress in Home Ministry. We are trying our level best to engage more youth in the force." Assam Rifles' Director General Lt. General Karan Singh Yadav said that Assam Rifles has been a friend for 175 years and will continue to do so. "The blaze of glory as we call them, will cover over 3,500 kilometers from New Delhi to Imphal, showcasing the history and achievements of Assam Rifles and its long association with Northeast." said Yadav. The audacious drivers roared and waved as they set off for the 3,500 kilometres road journey, spreading the message of friendship and unity. The Assam Rifles is one of the Paramilitary forces of India. The unit can trace its lineage back to a paramilitary police force that was formed under the British in 1835 called Cachar Levy.
