Rajan Bharti Mittal takes over as new FICCI chief | Rajan Bharti Mittal, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Enterprises, on Tuesday took over as the president of the country's prominent industrial body, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Addressing a press conference
in the national capital, the newly elected president called for internal reforms
and 75 billion dollars of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to achieve 10 percent
growth on a sustained basis. "In 2008-09 we (India) got 33 billion dollars (as
FDI). Why should India not become the hub for foreign investment? I want to put
on the table that during my leadership, we are going to start working towards
it, and by 2015, India should attract 75 billion dollars of FDI," Mittal said.
He further said that the main thrust of the organization will be to work with
the Union Government in areas of labour reforms, land reforms and bureaucratic
hurdles. "We are, this year, committed that we should work with the government
to see that these reforms, red tapism and rules and regulations are eased for
the investment to come in," Mittal added. The 50-year-old Mittal, an alumnus of
Harvard Business School, succeeds Harsh Pati Singhania, the Managing Director
of J. K. Paper. FICCI, with headquarters in New Delhi, is the voice of India's
business and industry. It also has direct membership from private as well as public
sectors. |
