IAF special plane brings bodies of slain Indians in Kabul attack | A special Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft on Saturday evening brought back the bodies of the Indians,
who were killed in the suicide bombings carried out by Taliban militants in Kabul on Friday morning. At least 10 Indians have been reportedly killed in the series
of explosions and gunfire at a kebab shop near a nine-story shopping complex which
houses the Safi Landmark Hotel, in which several Indian citizens were staying.
The Indians, who died in the incident, include two army officers, government officials,
an Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) constable and a tabla player, who was part
of a cultural delegation to Afghanistan. Five other army officers were also injured
in the attack. According to IAF sources, a Boeing 737-200 aircraft from the
Palam-based
Communication squadron had taken off from New Delhi for Afghanistan on Saturday
morning. The aircraft also carried a team of medical officers and medicines. A
team of army officers and officials deputed with the External Affairs Ministry
also went to Kabul to review the security arrangements in and around the Indian
embassy and residential areas. The bombers struck at a number of guest houses,
particularly at Park Residence, which is home to several Indian embassy staffers
and those linked to India's developmental work in Afghanistan. |
