‘Dithering’ Pak government yet to promulgate Hindu marriage law | The Pakistan government is yet to promulgate the Hindu Marriage Act in the country which has increased trouble for the minority community, as marriages are being
solemnised without being registered or any legal proof. Speaking in the National
Assembly, Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti said the government is
aware about the issue and has initiated a consultation process to come up with
a legislation. Bhatti said the government is working on a Minority Protection
Bill for different minorities across the country. He said the Hindu, Sikh and
Bahai communities have been demanding separate marriage laws and the matter
would
be addressed in the bill, work on which has started. “We have already held three
meetings with representatives of these minorities and hopefully the bill would
be presented before the National Assembly within the next three months,” The Dawn
quoted Bhatti, as saying. |
