President Patil greets nation on Milad-un-Nabi | President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Friday greeted the people of the country on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, to be marked on Saturday. In
her message, President Patil said: "On the occasion of the Milad-Un-Nabi, I extend
my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens." "May the message of
compassion,
tolerance and service to humanity preached by the Holy Prophet inspire and guide
us to follow the path of kindness and universal brotherhood," the President added.
Milad-un-Nabi marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The celebration of
Milad-un-Nabi
origin is said to be have been since 11th century in the Fatimid dynasty. In India
and some other parts of the sub-continent Milad-un-Nabi is popularly known as
as 'Barawafat', where the word 'barah' stands for the twelve days of the Prophet's
sickness. |
