Govt sees Maoists role in Telangana agitation

Union Home Ministry has reportedly expressed doubts that there could be links of Maoists elements with the ongoing Telangana agitation in Andhra Pradesh. Ministry has doubts that Maoists elements might be involved in the disguise of human rights activists and who could be instigating students to carry on with violence. Osmania University students, however, deny presence of Maoists on the campus. Meanwhile, the student who immolated himself on Saturday in the midst of a standoff between students and police at the Osmania University has died. On Saturday evening, Siripuram Yadaiah from Nagaram village in Ranga Reddy District, who had come to Hyderabad to take part in students' agitation, immolated himself by pouring petrol over his body. Yadaiah, who set himself ablaze raising pro-Telangana slogans in the campus, was identified with help of some certificates found in his bag along with a suicide note. The note, purportedly written by him in Telugu, said the government was not responding to the agitation for a separate Telangana. "People like me will get jobs if Telangana state is formed. I am giving life for Telangana and please don't stop this movement till Telangana is achieved," the note reportedly stated. Meanwhile, the faculty of the Osmania University has requested the students to return to classes and prepare for examinations. "I am requesting the students, please write your exams and struggle for Telangana. Don't struggle only for Telangana because life is very important for you,'' said Vinod Kumar a member of the faculty.
