BJP to move adjournment motion in Lok Sabha over price rise | Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday said it has plans
to move adjournment motion against the United Progressive Alliance government on Feb 23 in the Lok Sabha seeking debate on the price rise issue. Addressing
mediapersons in the national capital, senior BJP leader S.S. Ahluwalia said the
BJP would move adjournment motion against the United Progressive Alliance government
on the issue of price rise to demand a debate on price rise issue affecting the
country. The Budget Session of Parliament, which will commence on Monday (Feb.22)
is set to be a stormy affair with the Opposition looking all geared up to corner
the Government on the rise in the prices of food articles and on its proposal
to hold talks with Pakistan later this month. The session will begin with the
customary address by the President to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament
tomorrow. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP, the Left and other parties
have demanded a discussion on the issue of price rise on the very next day, even
before the two Houses take up the motion of thanks to the President for her address.
The Opposition parties have also indicated that they would not allow the Houses
to function normally if their demand were not accepted. However, the Government
on Sunday said it is prepared for a discussion on prices and was even willing
to take it up first, though it would be correct to adopt the motion of thanks
to the President first. Speaking to media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan
Kumar Bansal said a final decision on this would be taken at the meeting of the
Business Advisory Committee tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishan Advani was elected the working chairman of the National Democratic Alliance until Atal Bihari Vajpayee is fully fit. Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav was also elected as the NDA convener. |
