After 'non-state actors', Pak vows no terrorism against India from its 'governable' land | First it was the 'non-state' actors on its soil Pakistan blamed for terror strikes against India, and now comes a promise not to allow terror activities against India from its so-called 'governable' land. Pakistan has told the United States that it is
committed to resolve all outstanding issues with India, and that it would not
allow the use of its 'governable land' for any terrorist activities against its
neighbour. During a meeting with top US Senator Richard Kerry, Prime Minister
Yousuf Raza Gilani assured him that Islamabad is committed to resolving all core
issues between the two countries through peaceful means and composite dialogue.
Gilani's statement that his government would not allow extremists to use its 'governable'
land' against India suggests that Islamabad is unlikely to take action against
militants aiming to launch yet another attack on India using the terror hot bed
tribal regions along the Afghan border. During a meeting with Kerry at the PM
House here, Gilani also said Washington should de-list Pakistan from the list
of countries whose America bound citizens have to undergo special screening at
airports inorder to improve its image in the country. Gilani also discussed issues
pertaining to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, the Al-Qaeda linked terror suspect currently
in US jail, with Kerry. Kerry, who is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, also held a separate meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari later.
During the meeting Zardari told Kerry that Pakistan is looking forward to engaging
more closely with the US on the bilateral political track, including the strategic
dialogue. |
