British National Party amends Constitution to allow Asians, Blacks as members | The British National Party (BNP) has approved changes to its constitution to allow Asian and black people to be members after voting to scrap its Whites-only rule. The move was forced on the party by legal action, where the Central London County Court told them to amend its constitution
to comply with race related laws or face legal action by the Equality and Human
Rights Commission. The legal action forced party’s leader Nick Griffin to urge
its members to approve changes, which would comply with anti-discrimination
legislation
changes. Griffin told his party members that there was no alternative if the BNP
was to take part in this year's general election, but he reassured hard-line members
that it would never become a “multi-racial” party. The BNP also leader said that
he expected a “trickle, rather than a flood” of applications from ethnic minority
Britons, Daily Express reports. “We are happy to accept anyone as a member,
providing
they agree with us that this country should remain fundamentally British,” he
said. |
