Terror strike: Home Ministry issues fresh alert for Delhi, Indore, Kanpur | The Union Home Ministry on Sunday issued a fresh advisory for people in Delhi, Indore and Kanpur to be on high alert following Saturday's bomb blast at the German Bakery in Pune in which nine persons were killed and over 50 were injured. Union Home Minster P. Chidambaram and senior ministry officials issued the alert after a meeting in
the capital. National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, Home Secretary G. K.
Pillai, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ashwani Kumar, and chief
of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and National
Investigation Agency (NIA) were among those who attended the meeting.
Chidambaram
also briefed the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on the Pune blast and the
investigations that have been carried out so far in connection with it during
a meeting at the latter's &, Racecourse Road official residence. According to
Home Ministry, the explosion was an improvised explosive device (IED) containing
an ammonium nitrate fuel oil mix, with RDX as a booster. In Delhi , special security
has been provided at crowded areas like the Indira Gandhi International Airport
, railway stations, the inter-state bus terminus and markets. Delhi Police are
reviewing security in the city. An appeal has gone out to citizens to report any
suspicious movement or object to police staff or on emergency call numbers.
Additional
forces have been deployed at the Delhi Metro stations. In Mumbai, security has
been beefed up at important places in the city, including railway stations on
Central, Western and Harbour lines, domestic and international airports and places
of worship in the city. In Uttar Pradesh, all district police chiefs have been
asked to maintain a special vigil at important places, including markets, railway
and bus stations and to undertake intensive checking at all places. In Rajasthan,
all places, including railway stations, bus stands, hotels, inns are being checked
thoroughly. |
