Rangers called in to control Karachi's deteriorating situation | As violence in Karachi refuses to die down, the provincial
government has called in the Rangers to control the situation and establish law and order in the city. Interior Minister Rehman Malik held a meeting with Sindh
Governor Ishratul Ebad and MQM leaders following which it was decided to call
in the Rangers. The Rangers have been given complete authority to establish peace
in Karachi. Meanwhile, three more people were killed on Wednesday, bringing the
death toll to 40. The violence had erupted on Friday (January 29), when some
activists
of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) clashed with those of the Awami
National
Party (ANP), and has engulfed the whole of country's financial capital. According
to police, over 74 persons have been killed in political violence in Karachi since
the start of 2010. Officials are worried over the situation getting worse, as
they fear that extremists and the drug mafia may take advantage of the political
tension in the city. |
