Obama proposes 1.2 billion dollar aid for Pak Army to fight against Taliban | US President Barack Obama has proposed another 1.2 billion dollars in aid for Pakistan to train and equip the security forces of the troubled country to fight against the Taliban insurgents. The proposed fund will be in addition to the Pakistan Counter-insurgency
Capability Fund, under which 700 million dollars were provided to train and equip
the Pakistan Army and other security forces in 2009. Sources said Obama proposed
1.322 billion for Pakistan from the Economic Support Fund (ESF). Economic
support
funds are provided on a grant basis and are available for infrastructure and
development
works. Obama also proposed another whopping 160 billion dollars for two years
for Iraq and Afghanistan, The News reports. However, Obama's budget documents
pointed out that these proposed funds do not reflect any policy decisions about
specific military or intelligence operations. |
