BJP demands stern action by Prime Minister on border issue with China | Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take stern action over off and on border problems being created by China. In the recent past, there have been reports about Chinese army’s intrusions. BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said, "We are
expecting stern action from the Prime Minister as far as our border issue related
with China is concerned." Speaking on the recent statement of Rashtriya
Swayamsewak
Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat’ statement asking the RSS activists to protect north
Indian immigrants from attacks in Maharashtra state, Gadkari said he would be
able to comment only after verifying Bhagwat's statement. "Actually, first I'll
verify what is exactly the statement from RSS sanghachalak (chief) and then I
will make any comments on it," he said. Shiv Sena party and its breakaway faction
the Maharashtra Navanirmana Sena (MNS), have been accused of being behind the
attacks on north Indians in Maharashtra . In October 2008, MNS activists attacked
hundreds of students from the northern states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh appearing
for railway recruitment examinations in Mumbai. Shiv Sena and the MNS,
best-known
for their anti-immigrant rhetoric, believe Mumbai, belongs to the Hindu Marathi
community. Maharashtra , India 's most industrialised state has long been a magnet
for jobseekers, particularly from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, two of India 's poorest
states. Almost half of Mumbai's 17 million residents are from these two states. |
