Afghanistan conference outcome to define India's future role: Krishna | India's role in the future of Aghanistan will become clearer after deliberations in the one-day international conference that is being held here in relation to that country on Thursday, said External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna. Speaking
on the issue of Afghan conference, Krishna said: "Well, I think consultations with
various governments are underway, we don't know what's going to emerge from this
conference. And, depending upon
what emerges out of this conference, the role of India will become much clearer.
But, as of today, our role because of our relationship with Afghanistan because
we are helping them out in their developmental agenda of infrastructural development,
and we are quite satisfied with the role that we have in Afghanistan. "And, I
conveyed to the Foreign Secretary David Miliband that we appreciate the British
PM's call for India's involvement in the emerging scenario of Afghanistan," he
added. On the issue of attacks on Indian nationals in Australia, Krishna said:
"There have been repeated attacks, about a dozen incidents in the last four weeks,
have only further raised our concerns. Well, we are very happy that the Australian
Govt. and the Victorian government have taken our concerns seriously. And, they
would comprehensively study, the incidents, reported incidents, and also the
implications
of these incidents." "And, I have been assured by the Foreign Minister of Australia
that as soon as this high-level working group comes out with their assessment,
they would advice Govt. of India. In the meanwhile, community policing has been
stepped up and also a number of Indian students who have gone there, they have
also taken up part time jobs and after fulfilling their obligations in those jobs
they travel late into the night, and very early in the morning travel in trains,
tubes and pubic transport. So, I think, patrolling has been increased. As a result
of these number of steps, I am hoping that we will see that these unprovoked attacks
on Indians are going to be checkmated," Krishna added. |
