The United States is trying hard to establish peace in South Asia, and is having ‘significant’ discussions with India , Pakistan and Afghanistan to achieve its objective. Interacting with media persons during a regular briefing here, Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley said that senior US officials are in engagements with regional governments to work towards the ultimate goal of establishing peace and stability in the region. “We continue to have significant dialogue with the government of Pakistan , the government of India , and the government of Afghanistan about how we can have stability, dialogue and cooperation across the region,” Crowley said while responding to a question regarding Defence Secretary Robert Gates ’ visit to the region. Crowley said it was important that the three countries together with the US and the international community work towards thwarting the threat posed by political extremists in South Asia . “That is ultimately how, jointly, these countries together with the United States, together with the international community, will be able to stabilise the region and defeat and deter political extremists who threaten, in different ways, all three countries,” The Daily Times quoted Crowley, as saying.
