India wants Australia to take stern action, says Preneet Kaur | Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur on Friday asked the Australian government to take stern action against the culprits of the latest attack in the long-running series of attacks on Indians in Australia. In the
latest incident, a cab driver was attacked on Friday morning by a group of passengers,
who were drunk as per police reports. The Australian police later arrested the
perpetrators. "I think, as far as we are concerned, in the government we are doing
utmost to register our absolute displeasure and concern about what is happening
to the Indian citizens in Australia . I think almost on a daily basis it has been
monitored and it is very unfortunate that even this morning it has come to light,
as you are saying, that a cab driver has been assaulted," said Kaur. "The incident
of the arson at the Gurudwara was very unfortunate and I think any place of worship
that is attacked, it is very unfortunate, and we can only hope that Australia
does get its act together like they are telling us, and they get the perpetrators
and they bring them to book, and they are punished," she added. Earlier this week,
a gurudwara that was under construction in the southeastern suburb of Melbourne
was damaged in an overnight fire. On January 9, 29 -year-old Jaspreet Singh was
attacked and set alight, while he was parking his car in Melbourne. Earlier also,
an Indian student was stabbed to death, straining ties between the two countries. |
