Shahbaz offers to resign, asks Zardari and other ministers to follow suit

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that there is no one-sided accountability being carried out, adding that he is ready to resign and asked President Asif Zardari and his loyal ministers to follow him. The comment comes in the wake of demands from some opposition members, including some leaders of the PML-N, for the resignation of Zardari and the PPP Ministers whose cases were reopened after the Supreme Court's verdict that declared the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) void ab initio and violative of certain provisions of the constitution. Shahbaz said that he had full confidence in the judiciary, and emphasized that the president could ask judges he trusted the most to hear his case. "I have full confidence in the judiciary and will accept its decision whatsoever," The Nation quoted Shahbaz, as saying. "Neither I was investigated by NAB nor any member of my family got loans written off. I am still ready to resign and President Asif Zardari and his ministers should follow him, so that they would clear their names first from courts," he said. Shahbaz had earlier extended an olive branch by saying that political leaders should refrain from leveling allegations against each other, and called on political parties to play their role in strengthening the country.
