Norah Jones alters construction plans after legal threats from neighbours | Norah Jones had to compromise on her plans to add half a score windows to her Brooklyn home after her New York City neighbours threatened to drag her to court. Jones had bought the 19-century building in the Cobble Hill district
for 3.1million pounds in January 2009. Although, the structure was legally protected
from any alteration and destruction, Jones got permission to add 10 windows to
the property. According to her contractor this would have allowed more light to
enter the building. However, Cobble Hill Association members accused Jones of
using her celeb status to turn the decision in her favour and threatened a lawsuit
to foil her plans. They said the structure's foundation was weak and could not
support more windows. And now Jones has agreed to have only seven windows. President
of the Cobble Hill Association Roy Sloane is afraid that the scheme "sets a dangerous
precedent" but he is satisfied with the revision of plans. "Our first choice is
to always have neighbours work together and find a compromise," the Daily Star
quoted him as saying. According to the New York Post officials may be issuing
a new construction permit soon. |
