Gilani, Sharif agree to stop party leaders from indulging in blame game

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and former premier Nawaz Sharif have agreed that they would stop leaders of the Pakistan People's Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz from levelling allegations against each other. Gilani had called Nawaz over the telephone to discuss issues of national importance, especially a proposed accountability law. The PML-N chief told the Prime Minister that the draft of the proposed accountability bill, which was sent to him as part of consultations on the subject, had been sent back to the government with "necessary recommendations". Gilani assured Nawaz that the government would try its best to come up with a comprehensive accountability law, which would be "acceptable to all walks of life and fulfil all future requirements," the Daily Times reports. The Prime Minister said good governance and transparency were the government's top priorities. He also briefed Nawaz on the Balochistan package, and said proposals by a constitutional reforms committee would soon be tabled in the National Assembly. Nawaz told a TV channel that he had made a few suggestions on the bill, and sent it back to the federal government. He hoped that the new accountability bill would be tabled in parliament soon. The PML-N chief also reposed confidence in Prime Minister Gilani.
