A crackdown involving 30,000 specially mobilised police, guards and firefighters have been put in place to ensure the safety of the players during the month-long tournament, The Daily Express reports. Police also fear that the gangs in a country where the average wage is less than 20 pounds a week may target Drogba. The safety fears are also causing growing concern among Premier League teams, as the clubs are angry over the security risk to key players at such a critical stage of the season.
