Ashok Leyland unveils its new range of trucks | Commercial automobile manufacturer Ashok Leyland has launched its new truck platform named U-Truck in the versions of a tipper and a tractor. On
the launch, it was revealed that the futuristic platform called U-Truck will have
25 fully built tractors tippers and haulage trucks in the next 18 months, ranging
from 16 to 49 tonne payload carry capacity. The production will commence from
April 2010. The U-4936 tractor and U-2523 tipper are the initial two prototype
models of the platform. R Seshasayee, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland said
the new range of U-Truck has been manufactured keeping in mind the different needs
of customers. "The U-Truck is a new range, a new platform and it is a new platform
because it is built around the customer. One particular customer's need is not
necessarily the same as another customer's needs because the operating businesses
are different, the loads are different, the roads are different, the financial
requirements are different, and the service needs are different, he said. While
the new platform is designed to meet the Bharat Stage (BS) III, BS IV and even
BS V emission norms, it would also have increased power and fuel efficiency. The
company has also announced its plans to shift all existing products under the
new platform by March 31, 2013. Besides, the new models that are to be introduced
will also have different variants. |
