Main roads in Srinagar to get a facelift | Main roads in Srinagar are getting a facelift, thanks to an initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Government. The authorities have started widening the
roads and constructing footpaths to deal with the problem of traffic congestion.
Roads that are getting a facelift include Maulana Azad Road and Residency roads.
Both the roads lead to important government offices and institutes like the civil
secretariat, the high court etc. The roads also lead to world famous Dal Lake.
There has been an enormous increase in the vehicular traffic throughout the valley,
which has given rise to problems like traffic jams, accidents and air and noise
pollution. The project will cost about 106 million rupees. "The traffic is on
rise in Srinagar and roads have become congested. So it is the first step from
the state government to address the problem," said Nasser Ahmad, project engineer.
Residents of Srinagar City have hailed the efforts of the state government. "The
city is facing a lot of traffic jams for the last one or two years. The state
government has now started widening the roads, which I think, will help in reducing
traffic snarls," Saleem Ahmad, a local resident of Srinagar. The project is being
executed by state government's Roads and Bridges and Public Works department. |
