CPM blames UPA Govt for inflation | Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat, said here on Monday that controlling the price line is the responsibility of the Union Government instead of the state governments. Addressing the media here,
Karat noted that there is nothing much the state governments can do to control
price rise. On Sunday, Union Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar had suggested
that the state governments ought to do more to control spiralling food prices.
"I see that Mr Sharad Pawar yesterday has sought to put the responsibility on
the state governments saying they should take steps to curb price rise but the
primary responsibility is of the central government. It is they who are allowing
forward trading in essential commodities, future trading in essential commodities,"
said Karat. Commenting on the Copenhagen meet on Climate Change, Karat termed
it as a failure since there was no positive outcome. "The United States and the
developed countries adopted tactics to prevent any such decision and pursued the
path of preventing or trying to go back on the Kyoto protocol commitments which
were made by the developing countries," he said. "They have not agreed to any
deep cuts in emissions. On the other hand they have sought to impose on the developed
countries cuts in emissions and they want verifications of that. That has been
their approach. So all in all there is nothing much that has come positively out
of the (Copenhagen) talks," Karat added. |
