China border intrusions due to 'differences of perception': SM Krishna

Underplaying reported border intrusions by China in the recent past, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has said that the two countries are trying to resolve 'ifferences of perception over their long border'and find a solution to the vexed border dispute. "There are certain boundary issues which are being tackled at a level which have been agreed upon between the two countries. A special mechanism has been created where our special representatives have had 13 meetings and they are going to have more meetings because it is a long border, which has not been demarcated, where there is a Line Actual Control. So perceptions could be different. Well we are trying to find a solution to this problem," said Krishna , during a debate in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The Asian giants still claim vast areas of each other's territory along their 3,500 kilometres long Himalayan border, which has remained largely peaceful since the border war in 1962. After two decades of talks, India and China exchanged maps on the least controversial middle segment of their frontier in 2000 and three years later special envoys were appointed to map out a resolution of the dispute. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had signed an agreement on the 'guiding principles' to resolve the dispute in 2005. But progress on demarcating the border has been slow.
