Pak conveys concerns to US over expansion of drone strikes | Worried by US plans to expand drone strikes inside the country, Pakistan has conveyed its concerns to the Obama administration. Foreign
Office (FO) spokesperson Abdul Basit Washington should avoid expanding missile
strikes to Balochistan and also stop using unmanned aircrafts in the Federally
Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). "The US could better understand the implications
of extension of the attacks," The Daily Times quoted Basit, as saying. Basit said
Islamabad wants stability in Afghanistan, and is ready to lend maximum cooperation
to the allied forces currently present in that country. "Occupying a sovereign
country is not a solution and coalition forces would have to leave Afghanistan
sooner or later. Devising a tangible strategy for peace and stability in the region
is the need of the hour," he added. Basit re-iterated that Pakistan has 'concrete
evidence' to prove that India was fanning extremism in the country through Afghanistan,
and that the evidence would be tabled at an appropriate time. He said Pakistan
wants result-oriented dialogue with India, as 'dialogue for the sake of dialogue'
would not serve the purpose. "For maintaining good ties with Pakistan, coalition
forces should stop infiltration from Afghanistan into Pakistan," he added. |
