Vikram Buddhi's parents say his conviction in US unfair | The parents of IIT alumnus Vikram Buddhi, who was awarded a nearly five-year jail term by a US court for posting hate messages against former President George W Bush, blamed the justice delivery system as unfair. Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Buddhi father BK Subba Rao said the trial was a "total miscarriage of justice." "When they (jury, they are not expert in law) could not understand the instructions (given by judge) they put it in writing that whatever you (judge) have instructed us there are contradictions in the instructions. We do not understand the law. Please
help us to understand the law. It is the duty of the judge to make jury understand
it. Instead the judge replied there is no contradictions and continue your deliberations.
That means the judge is commanding the jury, who is expressing helplessness in
understanding the law. It is a very serious matter. These reasons make the trial
unfair," said Rao. Buddhi, an engineering research scholar, was awarded a nearly
five-year jail term by a US court for instigating the Iraqi's by Internet to kill
former President W Bush. The engineer was charged by the US secret service of
having circulated emails, provoking Iraqi to murder Bush and bomb infrastructure
in US. |
