Waqar Younis may soon replace Intikhab Alam as Pakistani coach | Former fast fowler Waqar Younis's appointment as the Pakistan team's new fielding and bowling coach for the Australian tour is part of a bigger picture.
The Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to replace the current coach Intikhab
Alam with Younis. "Normally, it makes no sense to bring in Waqar at this point
of time for the Australian tour unless some long term thinking was not involved.
Chief coach Intikhab Alam and assistant coach, Aaqib Javed are already working
with the side," the Daily Times quoted a PCB source, as saying. "Apparently, PCB
chairman Ijaz Butt is looking at Waqar as a long term candidate for the post of
chief coach and the days of Intikhab might be numbered as chief coach," he added.
Source added that Younis was very popular among the current bunch of players who
have lot of respect and regards for him. During his previous tenure in 2006, Younis
helped Pakistani bowlers to improve their techniques before resigning owing to
differences with the board and officials. The PCB source added that Younis could
end up drawing fatter perk and bonuses than Intikhab, if the team and bowlers
do well during his coaching tenure. "If the team and bowlers does well during
his coaching period, he could end up earning more than the chief coach," he said. |
