National Rehabilitation Commission to be formed: Sonia Gandhi | Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said that the UPA government has decided to form a National Rehabilitation Commission to ensure adequate compensation to people willing to part with land for development. Addressing an election rally here on Tuesday,
Gandhi said: "The commission would ensure that villagers who are willing to part
with their land for development were compensated adequately and rehabilitated
properly." Claiming that Congress has always fought for the interest of the tribals
and weaker sections of the society, she said former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi
had nationalized the mining sector, which benefited local people. She also claimed
that several welfare measures have been taken ever since President's rule in Jharkhand
came into force. Addressing the voters at Ghatsila, Gandhi said: "You have to
decide whether you want to take the country on the road to progress, peace and
development or we want to be embroiled in the politics of religious fanaticism,
politics of personal gain or backwardness." Later, she also addressed a well attended
meeting at Sisai where she asked the people to elect candidates of Congress party.
The polling in the last two phases will be held on December 12 and 18. Counting
of votes will be held on December 23. |
