Zardari directs sports ministry to revisit PCB's constitutional draft | President Asif Ali Zardari, as the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has directed the Federal Sports
Ministry to revisit the board's constitution, which was drafted by the apex cricket authority in the country itself. It may be noted that the ministry had sent a
consultative constitution of the PCB to the Presidency for approval, after having
cut down the powers of the board chairman tremendously. The limitless and undefined
powers of the chairman were redefined in the new draft, which was sent to the
Presidency. The draft included introduction of divisional cricket system besides
giving more representation to regional cricket associations on all powerful cricket
governing board. According to sources, PCB chief Ijaz Butt had expressed serious
reservations over the new draft and urged the Presidency to ask the ministry to
resurrect the constitution. "PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt has shown reservations over
several clauses of the constitution while sports ministry officials are also of
the view that the draft needed to be revisited," The Dawn quoted sources privy
to the issue, as saying. Meanwhile, Zardari has constituted a new constitutional
subcommittee, which will revisit the draft. |
