Sushma Swaraj slams findings of the Liberhan Commission | Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday slammed the findings of the Liberhan Commission tabled in the Lok Sabha. Swaraj expressed
her dissenting views during a debate on the Liberhan Commission report in the
Lok Sabha. The one-man Commission had looked into the circumstances that led to
the demolition of Babri Masjid, which sparked some of the worst communal riots
since Partition in 1947. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had tabled the long-awaited
report that has accused several BJP leaders of a role in the 1992 destruction
of the medieval mosque, dealing a blow to an already-weak opposition. Slamming
the findings of the report, Swaraj termed the report as baseless and expressed
anguish for wrongly blaming former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. "I ask
the honourable Home Minister to dismiss this report. If this report remains to
exist then it will provoke communal riots throughout the country," Sushma Swaraj
said. She further mentioned that the report was not a judicial one, but a political
report by an opportunist. "The report gave clean chit to Narasimha Rao and held
Atal Behari Vajpayee guilty. I said that I would prove my allegations. This report
is totally baseless and contrary to the evidences," Swaraj added. |
