FBI to hand over all information on Headley, Rana: Krishna

External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna on Monday told mediapersons here that the Federal Bureau of Investigation team that is in the national capital, has promised the Indian Government that it will provide all information connected with terror suspects David Headley Coleman and Tahawwur Rana. The FBI team arrived here on Sunday for discussions with their Indian counterparts during which it may share information on alleged links between US terror suspects Headley and Pakistani-Canadian Rana with Mumbai terror attack and several people in India, including filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul. The first batch of FBI officers reached Mumbai in the wee hours and interacted with Indian security officials associated with the probe into the 26/11 incident before they flew in New Delhi yesterday evening. Some more FBI officials are expected to join their colleagues. A Times Now report says that during their stay in Delhi, the FBI team will hold talks with officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and central security agencies. The FBI had already given some brief information about Rana and Headley and also assured the Indian investigating agencies that they will to share more of it as the interrogations of the duo proceeds further. The US has indicated that FBI has evidence linking Headley and Rana to Mumbai terror attacks and may share information on Headley's links with several people in the country. Sources said FBI has promised a lot of additional material on the interrogation of Headley and Rana who have been arrested in the US for allegedly plotting terror attacks in India and Denmark. President Barack Obama has shown personal interest in the Headley-Rana case and the matter was discussed during his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on November 24 during the White House summit in Washington. US National Security Adviser James Jones had said last week that Obama has given instructions to US authorities to share the information with India regarding Headley-Rana case despite the limitation posed by the US legal system to protect the rights of the accused. Indian agencies have sought all the details of Headley's links with Rahul, gym instructor Vilas Varak, some diplomats and business personalities who were allegedly misused by the terror suspect, sources said. Headley and Rana were arrested by FBI in Chicago last month for allegedly plotting terror strikes in Denmark and India. However, Rana's advocate had denied the allegations made against his client. The NIA has already recorded statements of various people, including Varak, during which he told the investigators about the activities of Headley. The US terror suspect had changed his name to Headley from Daood Gilani in 2006 to avoid suspicion. The probe agency wanted to undertake detailed questioning of Headley and Rana and a team from New Delhi had gone to the US earlier this month. But the US authorities did not give access because of the legal necessities, the channel reported.
