BR Ambedkar remembered on his 53rd death anniversary in Mumbai | People from different walks of life paid homage to Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a crusader of the rights of the
marginalised people of the country, on his 53rd death anniversary here on Sunday.
Ambedkar’s admirers assembled in large numbers to pay tribute to him at Chaityabhumi,
the place where Ambedkar was cremated in Mumbai. Also known as Babasaheb, he was
an Indian genius, jurist, political leader, Buddhist activist, philosopher, and
thinker. Besides he was also an anthropologist, historian, orator, prolific writer,
economist, scholar, editor, and the revivalist of Buddhism in India . on In the
evening of his life, Ambedkar had taken up Buddhism at Nagpur and motivated thousands
of his followers to emulate him. Scores of Buddhist monks also participated in
this event and offered prayers. "He preached non-violence and spread the message
of peace across the nation. That is the reason we believe in Lord Buddha as well
as Bhim Rao Ambedkar. So, we come every year to this place to pay tribute to him,"
said Maityu, a monk and an admirer of B R Ambedkar. Prakash Ambedkar, grandson
of Ambedkar, was one among those who offered tributes at Mumbai's Chaitanyabhumi.
"Young generation has started adopting the values and ideologies of Babasaheb.
His ideologies are not confined to any region now. It is spreading and in young
India it will spread even more," said Prakash Ambedkar. |
