Capello warns England not to get complacent | England football coach Fabio Capello warned his players not to take their favourable draw in the 2010 World Cup for granted, saying that it still will not be a cakewalk. The Three
Lions drew the USA, Algeria and Slovenia in Group C last night. Asked if he was
pleased with the draw, The Sun quoted Capello as admitting: "Yes, of course. Other
groups are stronger than ours." He, however, insisted: "It is still not easy and
that is what I will tell the players." England will kick off their World Cup campaign
against the USA in Rustenburg, where they are planning to have their training
base, on Saturday June 12. The Three Lions famously lost 1-0 to the USA at the
1950 World Cup in their only competitive meeting, which sent shockwaves around
the world. America are now considered a major football force, rated 14th in the
FIFA rankings, although they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by England when the teams
last met at Wembley in June 2008. After the USA, Capello's men travel to Cape
Town on Friday June 18 to face a team they have never played, Algeria. The Africans
scrambled into the finals after beating Egypt in a fiery affair. England will
finish their Group C campaign against Slovenia on June 23 in Port Elizabeth. |
