Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik quashes 'exit' rumours

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik has rebutted speculations over his possible departure in an upcoming cabinet reshuffle as mere "rumours." "If I am working well or that if my leadership is not satisfied with my performance, the Prime Minister has the right to take decision on me. However, as far as I know and understanding given to me there is no such truth in these rumours," The Nation quoted Malik, as saying during a news conference at his Central London residence. Speaking about the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), Malik said the matter is before the Supreme Court and nobody has the right to impose their views on a subjudice matter. Under section 264, Malik pointed out, a closed case cannot be reopened. Talking about his meeting with the MQM leader Altaf Hussain on the NRO issue, Malik said he has delivered messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to him. He said the MQM differed with the PPP on the issue of NRO, but this did not mean that either party will abandon each other. "We are very much allies in Sindh and at the Federal level," he said.
