Commonwealth Games projects will be completed on time: Centre | The Union Government on Thursday expressed confidence that all sports infrastructure projects in Delhi would be completed well before next year's Commonwealth
Games. Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for
Youth Affairs and Sports, Pratik Patil said: "After obtaining the necessary regulatory
clearances from the concerned agencies, the sports infrastructure work on the
different venues of the Commonwealth Games was commenced." "There have been instances
of delays in a few projects for which 'Recovery Schedules' have been prepared,"
he added. The minister informed the house that, for Jawaharlal Nehru Stadiumn
Project the centre has allotted Rs 961.00 crore but till date only Rs 458.14 crore
has been spent, for Major Dhyanchand National Stadium Rs 130.56 crore has been
spent from the allotted Rs 262.00 croe, for Indira Gandhi Stadium Rs 312.10 crore
has been spent against the allotted Rs 669 crore, and for Dr. Karni Singh Shooting
Range project Rs 67.42 crore been spent from the allotted Rs. 149 crore. For all
these project Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Central Public Works Department
(CPWD) are the implementing agencies. For competition and training venues the
Delhi University has been able to spend only Rs 1.59 crore from the allotted Rs
306 crore, for a similar project the Jamia Milia Islamia spent Rs 16 crore out
of allotted Rs 33.41 crore. To upgrade the Kadrpur Shooting Range the Centre has
allotted 28.50 crore to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) but only Rs 15
crore has been utilised. The Delhi Public School could able to utilise Rs 50 lakh
from the allotted Rs 1.73 crore for the training venue for Lawn Bowl at R . K
Puram. For the construction of games village and competition and training venues
the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Government and New Delhi Municipal
Corporation (NDMC) utilised RS 385.20 crore, Rs 228.91 Crore, Rs 100 crore respectively
from the allotted Rs 827.85 crore, Rs 412.45 crore and Rs 330 crore, respectively. |
