People in Allahabad salute 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks martyrs | The three martyrs of the Mumbai terror attack, Hemant Karkare, Shashank Shinde and Ashok Kamte, were paid sentimental homage at Allahabad by a sculptor and scores of locals on Wednesday. The sculptor, Rajkapoor Chitera, sculpted the portraits of the trio
of the Maharashtra Police while the locals decorated them with garlands and even
performed rituals. Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving gunmen involved in the Mumbai
attacks and presently facing trial in a special court at Mumbai was also showcased
alongside the martyrs, in which he is projected at the gallows. "On this sacred
land where there is a confluence of three holy rivers (Ganga, Yamuna and the Saraswati),
we have paid homage to the martyrs of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Hemant
Karkare, Shashank Shinde and Kamte by sculpting their portraits on the sand,"
Chitera said. "We have also sculpted the portrait of Kasab here, where we have
shown him hanging by the rope. Through this we wish to request the government
to punish Kasab and more militants like him," he added. As for sculpting Kasab,
the artist Chitera and several other locals contended it was to convey to the
Government that they want to see the militant sentenced to death. Alongside the
rituals, the locals also prayed for the three slain police officers' souls to
rest in peace. |
