Parliament adjourned over Liberhan Report leakage | Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 2 p.m. on Monday following an opposition uproar over the leakage of the Justice Liberhan Commission's report to the media. Earlier in the day, a daily published a report quoting the
Liberhan Commission as saying that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,
Leader of Oppostion L.K. Advani and former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi
as being responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6,1992.
Answering a short discussion in the Rajya Sabha Union Home Minister Chidambaram
assured the house that no one from his ministry had spoken to any journalist about
the report. He said: "It's a voluminous report, it takes time to translate from
English to Hindi. And it is taking time." "Whatever the house decides, the Deputy
Chairman or the Chairman decides I am ready to follow the same," he added. Leader
of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely and senior BJP leader M.Venkaiah
Naidu questioned the authenticity of the media report saying "If no one from the
Home Ministry leaked the report, then how it reached to the media?" "The leakage
of the report has questioned the credibility of the house," they added. Naidu
demanded the immediate tabling of the report in parliament. He also questioned
the government's dilatory tactics. |
