Four new Supreme Court judges take oath | Four High Court (HC) Chief Justices were today sworn in as judges of the Supreme Court (SC) taking the total tally of Supreme Court Judges to 26. Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan
administered oaths of office to Justice A K Patnaik of (Madhya Pradesh High Court),
Justice T S Thakur of (Punjab and Haryana High Court), Justice K S Radhakrishnan
of (Gujarat High Court) and Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar of (Calcutta High Court)
here today at a simple ceremony attended by judges and advocates of the apex court.
The appointment of Karnataka Chief Justice P D Dinakaran has been put on hold.
Dinakaran's name has figured in the disproportionate assets case and he has been
accused of amassing wealth and grabbing land. The names of all the four judges
were cleared by the apex court collegium headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan.
This takes the judges tally to 26 against the formal strength of 31 judges. |
