BSF DIG OP Kanwar killed in Jammu border explosion | A Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) was killed and two soldiers were injured when a powerful IED exploded near the international border here on Monday. BSF sources said DIG OP Kanwar went to the spot at around 9 am after hearing reports of heavy exchange of fire between the BSF and militants.
It is learnt the infiltrators responsible for planting the IED that killed the DIG planted it on the Indian side and took cover on the Pakistani side of the international border. Heavily armed militants were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side from Pakistan during the night, the sources added. As soon as they saw an officer visiting the site, the IED was detonated and Kanwar was killed on the spot. A search operation has been launched in the
region. Earlier in the day, two soldiers were killed while foiling an infiltration bid by militants from across the border in Keran sector in Kupwara district on Kashmir Valley. According to the Defence Ministry, troops noticed suspicious movement along the
Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector, and challenged the infiltrators. However, the two soldiers were killed when the heavily armed militants opened fire. Troops returned the fire
and the gun battle was going on, Defence spokesperson added. |
