Maoists release abducted RJD leader | RJD leader Ramchandra Singh, who was abducted by a group of Maoists on Thursday night from Jharkhand's Latehar district, has been released, Police said on Friday. Singh, who is an RJD legislator from Manika constituency, returned to Latehar police station with his
six supporter on Friday afternoon to register his statement. "He was released
near the Murmu jungle of Latehar after police built up pressure on the Maoist
rebels by launching an operation," said Shashinath Jha, DIG, Palamau. On Thursday
night, Singh and his aide were returning home after canvassing for the upcoming
assembly elections, when they were picked up by Maoists. Singh represented Manika
constituency in the dissolved Jharkhand assembly and has been re-nominated by
his party for the forthcoming polls to be held from November 25. Earlier, Maoists
had warned that those who participate in the election process would be "punished".
Following that, the Centre had assured full security to Jharkhand voters. Over
300 companies of para-military forces will be placed at the disposal of the Election
Commission to ensure free and fair elections, according to the Home Ministry. |
