India worried over rise of terrorism in Afghanistan, Pakistan: Manmohan Singh | Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday expressed concern over the rising terror activities in Pakistan and Afghanistan and appealed to the world community to take note of it. Addressing the media after
the World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit in the national capital, the
Prime Minister said: “We are very worried about the rise of terrorism in our neighbourhood
particularly in Afghanistan and in Pakistan .” Singh further said that terrorism
has been recently wrecking havoc around the world, but India has been its victims
for years. “We have a vital stake in peace, progress and stability of these countries
and other countries of South Asia , but I do expect that the international community
will recognize that we are victims of terrorism unfortunately coming from across
our border for the last 25 years,” Manmohan Singh said. “The world may have discovered
terrorism as a global problem after 9/11, but we have lived with that for much
longer period. I sincerely hope that the processes which require sustained international
cooperation dealing with terrorism, we will figure very high on the priorities
of all civilized countries of the world,” he added. The Government has regularly
accused Pakistan-based militant groups of orchestrating attacks on India . India
has also suspended peace process with Pakistan after last November's attack on
Mumbai that killed 166 people, saying it could be resumed only if Pakistan acted
to dismantle the "terrorist network" on its soil. Though Pakistan Government has
denied official involvement, but accepted that the Mumbai terror attack was partly
planned on its soil. |
